Hi there! I’m Kelly.

(she/her/hers)

Welcome! I’m Kelly Herwig, a Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice (LISW-CP), an Alcohol & Drug Counselor (ADC), and an EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist and Consultant In Training.

I describe myself as a nervous-system-informed therapist, focusing on integrating the three avenues of healing: cognitive (thinking), emotional (feelings), and somatic (body awareness and sensation). I primarily work with people whose experiences have shaped the way they relate to themselves, others, and their nervous systems.

That’s the formal stuff, let’s get a little more acquainted.

When someone asks me what I do for work, I often tell them that I am “a professional tear extractor”. Don’t let that scare you away - I’m not here to make you cry. I’m here to help you hold whatever comes up. Crying is just one way that feelings move through us, but it certainly isn’t the only way. It happens to be my personal favorite, as I love a good cry. We’ll figure out what works best for you.

I have been in private practice for over 10 years, with over 15 years of total experience. Something I've learned and embraced during that time is that therapy works best when you can show up as yourself. Need to bring your lunch? Great! Have four different emotional support water bottles? Me too! Love swearing but feel self-conscious that you’ll be judged? My favorite office decor is my “Maybe swearing will help” sign! I’ll usually be wearing flowy pants or leggings, a T-shirt and sitting criss-cross in my chair with my shoes off. I likely won’t have a cozy cup of tea like you picture therapists having, but you can count on me having a Diet Coke within arms reach 90% of the time. We aren’t here to be polished, we are here to get our hands dirty.

The main thing to remember is that in this setting, you won’t be doing it alone.
